Project: The Hawaiian Vibe Ring (Part 1)

Last October, my sister had a special request: a "good vibes" ring for her son Edward, right on time for Christmas. Hurray! The perfect project to forget that winter is so terribly cold.

Below, meet Edward my nephew, in a picture taken 2 years ago with his long curly hair that I loved. Now we both have shorter hair, but we still ride the good summer vibes!

When I start a new custom project, I always begin with an open conversation with my client, a brainstorming session where everything is possible. It's time to dream big! :) I particularly enjoy that process because I get to know more about the human being sitting in front of me. It's exciting!

This is what Edward told me on a hot sunshiny day at the cottage:

"I'd like a surfer ring with an Hawaiian vibe. Could it be with flowers, palm trees and surf board motifs? I think it would be nice in rose gold."

No problem Ed, hang loose while I begin the research.

My favorite research tool is Pinterest. I can spend hours looking for great pictures and inspiration.

When the research is over, the drawing can start. I arranged a meeting with Ariane, our 3D drawing specialist, to show her my sketches and give her creative directions.

Me, Ariane our 3D expert, and Bambi! We're happy because we've just realized we're both born on December 1st.

After Ariane was done with 3D drawing, everything made sense and became tangible. Magic operates! I could now show the technical plans to my nephew. This time, I had to use Snapchat to get hold of my surfer boy.

We tweaked a few details here and there to make it exactly as he wanted it. For example, the wave inside the ring would flow the opposite way on the final piece.

Some of the 3D drawings:

We agreed on the drawings. He liked what he saw. I got the GO for production!

We were ready to create the ring, using the technology of 3D printing.

Edward was only a few steps away from wearing the jewelry piece he had in mind. The best part about it: he wouldn't have to do anything. He could relax at home and let his mind surf the good vibes.

See you soon...
